Over 20 years ago I played bass with a group of super talented dudes in a band called Plasticville. To me, the name represented a commentary on the superficial southern california culture we were surrounded by. We spent countless hours perfecting a handful of masterpieces that that only made it as far as a DIY assemblage of home duplicated CD-Rs… until now.
Through the miracle of modern science and space-aged polymers, these recordings are available for posterity on streaming platforms everywhere.
These songs were recorded at different times and different locations in the mid to late 90s. I may be partial, but these songs and recordings hold up nicely after all these years and feel like they could have been written more recently. These songs are full of satisfying texture and moody layers of sound and emotion. Lofty, introspective and dreamlike vocals soar over a dynamic rhythm section that keeps you firmly rooted to the ground. Meanwhile, artfully applied spacial synths accompany similarly otherworldly guitar sounds providing ambiance and texture that scratches an itch you didn’t realize you had. Tasty sonic nuggets wait for you at every turn. This sounds like a lot, and it is. But it all works so well together.
There are a handful of other songs lying in wait on various unmixed studio tapes, we hope to finally finish and release as well.
We are also currently recording new material! I am excited to reconnect with these fine fellows and be working with these guys again. Check it out!
Thanks so much for listening. Be sure to follow Plasticville on streaming and social media platforms of your preference:
